Head on with sizes
To accommodate variations in head shape NFM has developed a unique system for different ballistic shell shapes and sizes for our HJELM™ product line, offering four different sizes and two different widths. “Skull shape diversity is key; that’s why we offer two shell widths. Traditionally, if you have a longer head, you will end up with a wider helmet. But here, you can opt for a longer, narrower fit. It all circles back to weight, as a closer match means a lighter, more comfortable helmet.”, explains Thomas Hvesser, Director of Strategic Projects at NFM.
With our FREC II™ technology, research and testing we manufacture the only ballistic helmet on the market today that comes in such a wide individually customizable range.
Every user will be able to wear a helmet that more closely matches the size and shape of their head. The result of a close match and lower shell weight is an end-user with the very best solution for improved comfort and reduced target acquisition times. Which means that the operator is not carrying around unnecessary weight.
Our sizing is based on the actual lengths and widths of several thousand 3D-scanned heads, from which the splits between the helmet sizes were chosen.
This graph provides a comprehensive visual representation of the distribution of HJELM™ helmet shapes and sizes across both length and width parameters. The subtle variations in these dimensions have been carefully tailored to accommodate a wide spectrum of head sizes and shapes within our user demographic.
The background, filled with numerous points, serves as a fascinating picture of the actual lengths and widths obtained from 3D scans of thousands of individuals’ heads. These scans played a crucial role in determining the precise breakpoints for selecting different helmet sizes, ensuring that the HJELM™ range can cater to the diverse anatomies of our users effectively. The result is a helmet lineup that combines scientific precision and ergonomic design, prioritising both comfort and safety for a broad spectrum of head profiles.
The advanced sizing system allows the HJELM™ combat helmet to be precisely tailored to the end- user, a perfect fit for every skull.
