Ballistic Engineer (R&D)

NFM is looking for a hands-on ballistic engineer to reinforce its R&D Team. You will be in charge of designing products for ballistic protection, from raw material selection to pre-production. You should be able to work on multiple projects at once in a diverse and reactive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Compiling requirements from stakeholders (Project managers and Sales representatives mostly).
  • Designing ballistic systems and evaluating/benchmarking them in term of price, weight and performance.
  • Organizing sample production, tests, analysis and certification by external test centers.
  • 3D drawings of components, version tracking and PDM.
  • Design of casting tools, compression tools, 3D-printed parts and equipment.
  • Manage the 3D printers and expand their usage and capacities.

 

Skills and experience

  • Successfully completed technical studies in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace, computer science or industrial engineering.
  • ~5 years experience in project management or similar position.
  • Result-oriented, pro-active and self-starter.
  • Assertiveness, negotiation skills and ability to work with a team and under pressure.
  • Business fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD software (ideally Solidworks or AutoCAD, Inventor…)
  • Knowledge in parametric modeling, tolerancing, finite element methodology and topology optimization.
  • Creative thinking, problem solving and hands-on approach.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills and improve on existing capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel within Europe

The main purpose of the position:

To select and ensure the availability of textile raw materials for current and strategic projects and tenders.

 

Main Tasks:

  • comparison of material properties based on their technical specifications,
  • cooperation with suppliers related to raw material development,
  • creating a database of raw materials and alternative suppliers,
  • building and maintaining relationships with other departments in the organization,
  • identify appropriate sources for the development of new materials,
  • responsibility for the raw material testing process, including the selection of methods and keeping to deadlines,
  • raw material cards.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • higher technical education with specialization in Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Composites,
  • very good knowledge of English (required),
  • knowledge of textile and material science, knowledge and skills of working in a metrology laboratory (testing of raw materials),
  • knowledge of measurement techniques and ability to work with raw material specifications,
  • ability to work in a team, conscientiousness and high level of accuracy in everyday work,
  • knowledge of measurement techniques and the ability to analyze measurement results,
  • the ability to work on many complex projects simultaneously, think analytically and work independently
  • a sense of responsibility and commitment,
